1Salonnière definition a hostess of meaningful gatherings that facilitate profound conversations to spark change in the world. We intentionally chose the feminine manifestation of this word because it represents a nurturing mind for the future, through collaboration and intuition. Salons have been taking place around the world in many forms since the 17th century and we’re continuing that tradition through digital and print publications, virtual conversations and events.
SALONNIÈRES AS FACILITATORS OF CULTURE
Salon definition served as a central clearing house for news, information, ideas, discourse broadly understood; as a communications center, into and out of which discourse flowed. In the spirit of Salonnières who subverted their domestic domains by making private spaces more public2 -- Their parlors, salons and gardens became environments for conversation, context, and challenging the expectations of the hearth and home.
2Public vs. Private definition Traditionally, women were not allowed to participate in the public sphere of intellectual discourse. In revolt, they hosted their own salons in their homes, their private spaces. We have a fascination with the feminine aspect and how it shows up in all genders, the home (in this case @maisonbodega) the intersection of live/work (a version of public/private), how a space can be used for nurturing ideas, and the tablescape - how aesthetics and objects can be transformed from what historically could be considered subjugation, to a vehicle for beauty, hope, connection, ritual, community.
Programming within Maison Bodega3 takes different IRL + URL forms: using 3D imaging and modeling techniques, certain installations will be available for virtual walk through. Other expressions include gallery-style installations, immersive dinner parties, and workshops.
